Flat World

Today’s high school graduates enter a world much different than their parents. Competition for all levels of jobs is no longer confined to regions of local, state and national. Today’s students compete against the best minds across the globe for jobs once privileged to be within the United States. Technology has flattened our world. The bottom line: Any element, of any work process, that can be digitized, is no longer bound within United States. Any human mind with online access may now compete for and win the work. Technology brings all minds to the global table and thus the High School Technology Graduation Requirement was created to prepare ABC students and educators for the new realities of digitally based work and global competition.

Flat World Skills - 21st Century Workers
Saul Rubinstein
Laura Rico (ABC AFT - President) and Dr. Gary Smuts (ABC Superintendent) invited Dr. Saul Rubinstein of Rutgers University to speak at the annual ABC Unified PAL Retreat (Partnership with Administration and Labor) attended by all 30 ABC school principals and their schools' union representativies. The event was held on October 28, 2008. Dr. Rubinstein points out the work force skills our students require in today's post-industrial age. The correlation with the NETS is striking!
